Dogs and Energy Healing: A Michael Overlie Story

A number of years back I got into energy healing. I was so excited about what I had discovered, there was a whole new world out there! I had no idea at that time what was to come and how my life would be forever shaped by these new beliefs.

My name is Michael Overlie. I'm a Canine-Partnered Energy Coach, Energy Healer and Author of Let Your Dog Lead.

Now, I'm here to teach others (and you) to find their own way to healing with energy, utilizing their amazing dogs.

A Brief History

Sensitivity

Let’s back up a bit.

‍

I have been a sensitive person my whole life. As a child I remember being able to “hear” the lights in department stores.

‍

At times, I was photophobic. I was, and am still, sensitive to loud noises. I didn’t recognize these sensitivities as gifts when I was young, but I understand how they come into play in my adult life.

‍

My Connection To Animals

As a child, I also had an incredible bond with animals. I loved watching the birds and squirrels. I loved all the neighborhood animals.

‍

I even used to sneak across the alley and “rescue” kittens (by breaking and entering the back porch and pilfering the fuzzy little buggers).

‍

‍

Then one day we got a puppy. He was given to us by another family who realized they couldn’t take care of him. This began my lifelong love affair with dogs. His name was Sage and he got me through the most difficult times in my younger years. I owe him so much.

My Brother, Bob

Fast forward many years and a few dogs later. March 18th, 2017- Bob, my brother died. I knew he was sick and could go at basically any time, but is still took me down.

‍

I held him in my arms as we turned off all the life support.

‍

I cried.

‍

I sobbed.

‍

I was wracked with pain.

‍

I went home and wept, writhing around in agony not knowing what was going on. This was pivotal as I was able to release so much pain that I had been holding onto. 

‍

About a week later, my mom came down to my place for a visit. We were both miserable and sat there with tears in our eyes. Then my dog Darby did the most beautiful thing. He sloooowly crept over to my mom, crawled up on the couch, and proceeded to lean into her and put his head under her chin. He just sat like that for a long time, “hugging” her and giving her immense love.

I literally felt this from where I sat. I had never witnessed anything like it.

My Mission

Healing Touch for Animals

Not long after this, I enrolled in a “Healing Touch for Animals” level 1 course. My experience was immeasurable. I sensed and felt things I had never even thought of. I was shown things about myself that I had no clue about.

‍

We practiced with dogs and horses and sometimes on each other. I was blown away.

‍

I became ravenous for more.

‍

Reiki, Pranic Healing, & My Road To Tenchi

Next, I trained in Reiki under 2 different Reiki Masters. I was exposed to Pranic Healing. I studied Reconnective healing. Seiki Jutsu. Others. One day, while I was giving a distance session to a Reiki Master friend, I found my own way.

I tapped into something that blew my socks off.

‍

I call it Tenchi (Japanese for Heaven and Earth. Important- Heaven AND Earth. Not separate places). She called me when the session was over and asked me “What was that? How did you do that?”

‍

It was simply beautiful and powerful, and I had tears streaming down my face while it happened.

‍

I didn’t know how to describe it to her at the time but was able to go through it later. 

‍

Tenchi's Connection To Animals

You see, for me, it was all about the animals. For me it is dogs. For her it was horses. She had been riding most of her life. I was able to see her as a small child, arms flung wide, hair flowing out behind her as she rode this beautiful mare bareback.

‍

She was laughing uncontrollably.

‍

This was pure joy.

‍

Bliss.

‍

That is what I tapped into and helped her tap back into as well.

It takes work and the willingness to be open.

‍

I have done a lot of work clearing out things that held me back, things that I was ashamed of and angry about. I had to make room. I had to get vulnerable and uncomfortable to be able to find this place again.  

‍

Everything is energy. A smile. Making eye contact with a handsome/beautiful person. A hug. A sweet text. Each of these things carry energy.

‍

Try This Healing Exercise With Your Dog

Spend some time with your dog and ask them this:

‍

What are you trying to show me?

What am I supposed to learn?

‍

Then close your eyes, place a hand on their chest and just sit. Let their breathing hold your attention. Just notice. Open your eyes, how do you feel?

‍

Do you notice the energy between you and your dog? Can you actually feel something? I feel it mostly in my hands but have lit up my whole body at times. Think gentle. Thinks soft. We are not talking about lightning bolts, yet. Buzzing. Just notice. Now ask your dog if you can share this. 

‍

Who is healing who? Who is actually in need of the healing? I thought I was going to be this mighty dog healer and realized that along the way I was helping myself heal.
